I was born in South Korea. From age 5 I wanted to be an artist. I was 6 years old when I won my first art competition. I drew the beauty parlor where my mother went. She always took me with her.
When I was growing up people told me that if I were an artist I would starve. Since my father believed this, I had no support from my parents to follow my dream.
In 1975 my family moved to Toronto, Canada. My high school art teacher encouraged me to go to Art College. I enrolled in commercial art design at George Brown College. I loved designing and also loved painting. My first job was working as a graphic artist retouching black and white photos.
When I had a baby my family came first. Since for me raising a child and working as a graphic designer did not go together, I put aside my desire and my passion for art. During that time as a housewife, I entered and won several logo design contests.
My children grew up and left home. So when my husband and I moved to China in 2004, I could express my passion, without limitation, on paper with water based poster paint. When we travel around China we record many exciting events – the culture, the people, the different types of architecture, and of course the food. I may mentally or digitally record these interesting scenes. Later I process the effect these records have on me. I may redesign, edit, or combine images to make something I want to create.
I have painted many scenes over the years, but I had never sold my paintings to any one. I gave many of them to my friends and family.
We have move back to Cranbrook BC Canada(2015). I want to sell my work. Lacking experience at marketing I would appreciate any advice.
